Berkshire Country Club is a private facility that is rich in tradition, founded in 1899, began as a 9 hole golf course in the Reading suburb of Wyomissing. In 1902, the club purchased land in Bern Township where John Reid laid out 9 holes on 60 acres. In 1916, world renowned architect, Willie Park, Jr. was hired to design an 18 hole golf course over the existing 9 holes with additionally purchased land. The club is well known for its family oriented activities which include golfing, swimming and tennis. The club currently has over 540 total members with approximately 340 being golfing members and records 14,000 rounds on average per season.

In 2016, Berkshire completed a multi-million dollar capital improvement project that included the replacement of its irrigation system to a HDPE, Rain Bird IC system, construction of a retention pond, restoration of the driving range tee and re-contouring of 3 greens.

In the fall of 2017, the club will complete a swimming and tennis court renovation project. The Green Department will assist with this renovation to include installing landscape irrigation and planting of new landscapes and sod.

With guidance from our golf course architectural firm Forse Design, future projects at Berkshire will include: installation of XGD into the greens, fine fescue native area plantings, tee complex restoration, tree management and bunker restoration.
